High-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts involve short bursts of intense exercise followed by recovery periods. During those intense intervals, reaching around 80 percent of your age-targeted maximum heart rate is key. Tabata workouts are a type of HIIT workout that follows a two-to-one effort-to-recovery ratio of 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off. Peloton offers HIIT classes, including Tabata cycling classes, for exercise bikes, treadmills, rowers, outdoor runs, and the mat. Some high-intensity cardio exercises featured in the top-rated mat classes are squat jumps, mountain climbers, burpees, high knees, and plank jacks.
