Using the Pause Button: How to Hit Pause During a Workout

We've all been there: You're in the middle of a climb when all of a sudden the plumber arrives at your home, or your kid needs help with homework, or a million other things need your immediate attention. But you never have to worry about missing out on your favorite tracks or finishing up those last few intervals thanks to the pause button, available on your Peloton Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+, and Row. Here's how it works.

How to Pause Your Workout on Your Peloton Equipment

Picture this: You’ve been wanting to take this class all week. From the music to the instructor, it's absolutely perfect. All of a sudden, an important call comes in. Don't fret—simply tap the screen and hold the pause button to confirm you’d like to stop the class.

Your Bike, Bike+, and Row classes will stay on the pause screen, and you can hop off to check on the family (or do whatever else you need to do), then hop back on and press play without missing a single beat. On Tread or Tread+, pausing a class will slow the belt down until it comes to a complete stop. After you pause, you will also have the option to lock your Tread immediately once it comes to a complete stop. If you don’t lock your Tread manually, Tread Lock will automatically activate after 45 seconds of inactivity. Once you’re ready to jump back into your class, just unlock your Tread, click the play button, and hop back into your class.

What Happens to Your Metrics When You Pause a Class?

When you pause a workout, everything freezes. Your class, progress, and aggregated metrics come to a complete halt for up to 60 minutes. You’ll still receive high fives, which you can respond to once you resume. And when you're ready to start up again, you can reconnect your headphones and heart rate monitor before you hop back in.

However, you will lose your rank on the Leaderboard—but you will remain listed in “Here Now” as usual, ordered by total output. This will also be reflected on your scorecard and workout summary. If you decide to take that same class in the future, you will appear unranked on the “All Time” Leaderboard for the full duration of the class, though still ordered by total output as usual.

Don't worry about PRs and challenges—we’ve got you covered! We love our achievements as much as the next person. Pausing a class does not impact your ability to progress in Programs, challenges, achievements, streaks, milestones, or personal records.
