One of the biggest draws of working out with Peloton is having access to dozens of world-class instructors in the privacy of your own home—or wherever else you choose to exercise. However, the sheer volume of elite instructors can sometimes seem overwhelming, making it difficult to find your favorite among so many fantastic choices. That's why we rounded up tips and tricks from our community on how to find your perfect match (without losing any motivation!) during the early days of your Peloton sweat sessions. Here's what they had to say.

Move to the Music

There's no denying that music can do wonders for your motivation, especially during those last few minutes of a big hill. Cranking up your favorite tunes is always a great way to get pumped, regardless of whether you're a novice or a seasoned rider. When looking for classes, simply filter for Music class types, then scroll through to find your favorite genre, artist, or era of music.

Don't Be Afraid to Dabble

Finding the right teacher to keep you on track with regular workouts doesn't necessarily need to be a time-consuming process. “I like trying out different instructors via five minute classes,” says Julie M. "It’s enough time to get a bit of a sense of them without making a huge commitment.” (Pro tip: You can take a 5 minute warm up class with all of our instructors in the Meet the Team Collection.)

Sometimes finding an instructor to help you crush your goals is simply a matter of looking at the numbers. “I look at my heart rate and output,” says Stephanie A. “The higher those go, the more motivated I am. I have definitely found two instructors that keep me going at a way higher level than the others.”

Try and Try Again

Every workout is different, which is why member Chris H. recommends giving every single instructor a try...at least two times. “You won't know who you like until you ride with them,” he says. “Your first ride with someone could be really good or really bad. To get consistency, you need repetition. I took every instructor two times to find my favorites.”

Pretend You're On a First Date

Everyone is nervous the first time they clip into their Bike or step on the Tread with a new instructor. But treat each class like a first date and you'll rarely be disappointed. Just like finding your soulmate, finding a great instructor is all about managing expectations. “Instructor choice is personal and based on a variety of factors,” says Tom A. “One is personality. Does their approach resonate with you? Some instructors are able to tap into what you need or want, while others simply don’t connect. And since we are remote–even on a recorded ride–perceived sincerity is a huge thing.”

The Bottom Line

Regardless of which instructor you choose, just know you’ll be getting a best-in-class workout. And if you try an instructor that’s not your speed, don’t get discouraged! There are dozens more waiting for you on the Peloton App.
